Did You Know?
- Research has shown a direct correlation between vocabulary knowledge and school success
- Young children are naturally drawn to books that contain images and ideas that are all about their world
- It is critical, then, to provide children early on with engaging reading materials to help them develop a love of language and learning
- In order to learn to read, children must be able to hear and distinguish sounds in words and then begin to match those sounds to letters.
- According to the International Reading Association and the National Association for the Education of Young Children, helping children learn sound similarities and differences is dependent upon exposure to patterned, predictable texts.
